We are a 100% Australian owned business that offers an exclusive range of high quality and ethically produced women’s fashion, accessories and home décor products. Our products are handmade and are sourced from Fair Trade, Eco friendly and ethical suppliers only. We promote traditinal techniques by rural artisans like handblock printing, woven cotton and silk, various embroidery styles and applique patterns.

One of our main suppliers, runs a women cooperative that trains and engages rural, tribal, and urban women from the province of Rajasthan. They produce products including women skirts, tops, dresses and home accessories. Our women co-operative project promotes good work practice that involves fair work conditions including a safe and clean work environment, fair wages, and profit sharing. They also assist their employee families with benefits such as healthcare, education for children, and assistance with relocation.

Our mission is to assist these people from lower socio-economic backgrounds in India, and sponsor the organisations that support and empower them. We want to promote in India, something that in Australia we often take for granted - that all people, men and women equally, have the right to an adequate means of livelihood, and the promotion of fair ownership of resources in society that leads to improved economic welfare in the community. We say NO to forced labour or child labour. The organisations we deal with all promote the voice of the people, both men and women.

About the owners

Anu Kansal

Anu who had migrated to Australia from India in year 1991 as an interior designer, very quickly took to full time studies in IT due to the economic recession. Having worked in IT industry for more than 15 years, Anu decided to say goodbye to the corporate world and run her own business with a unique outlook of sourcing products from rural areas in India. She has been constantly involved in child education and welfare projects in India for many years. She has great passion in helping needy.

Anu makes frequent trips to India to hand select quality products from the artisans for the Australian market as well as establish relationships with suppliers like the women co-op which produces excellent quality women fashion and home furnishing products. Anu designs many of the styles that you will see for sale.

Anu is a FTAANZ (Fair Trade Association of Australia and New Zealand Inc) member. And Colours in You is currently in the process of getting endorsed as Fair Trader of Australia.

Matthew James

Anu’s husband Matthew works in the Investment banking industry and takes a keen interest in the Colours in You business. Matthew has done his Masters in International studies from Sydney University.

Having travelled to India many times in the last few years, Matthew has seen at first hand the unique Indian handmade products on offer. Matthew strongly believes in supporting organisations in India that help fight poverty, and has quickly recognised a wider local demand and niche for these high quality 'value for money' products.
